Val was commissioned to make a painting for the Centrefold of the fall 2008 issue of Vancouver Review magazine. In the painting Val used Vancouvers Queen Mary Elementary School as her subject, illustrating her optimism for a hopeful conclusion to the debate over the future of Vancouvers beautiful older, not-yet-earthquake-proof schools.
